Yesterday, Microsoft released a new build (25309) to the Dev Channel which featured quite a significant number of new features as well as the usual fixes and improvements. A notable addition that shipped with this build was the new and sleek volume mixer on Windows 11.

Unlike the current arrangement, where you get a unified experience when it comes to making volume adjustments, the new and modernized volume mixer will let you establish more control.

With the new update, users will now be able to make volume adjustments that are now narrowed down to specific apps on playback devices connected to their Windows PC directly from the taskbar.

Once this neat feature ships to the Stable release, it will be located in the Quick Settings panel on Windows 11’s taskbar. You can access it by clicking on the volume icon, alternatively, Microsoft has also added a new keyboard shortcut (Win+ Ctrl + V) that you can also use to access it.

Admittedly, Microsoft had previously made significant enhancements to the volume mixer but they could only be accessed via the Settings app.

Windows 11, version 22H2 even ships with a neat feature that lets you adjust the volume on your device by hovering over the volume icon and scrolling the mouse wheel.

The new volume mixer redesign allows switching between different audio outputs directly from the taskbar. What’s more, you can make volume adjustments to individual apps and even toggle spatial audio technologies like Dolby Atmos to further enhance the quality of the audio output.
