Microsoft recently rolled out the Windows 8.1 Preview, which comes with Internet Explorer 11 Preview. Netflix, the popular streaming service, has revealed that Internet Explorer 11 allows users to stream video content via HTML5.

“Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to implement these extensions in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1. If you install the Windows 8.1 Preview from Microsoft, you can visit Netflix.com today in Internet Explorer 11 and watch your favorite movies and TV shows using HTML5!” Netflix stated in an official blog post.

Netflix expects premium video content on the web to shift away from the traditional plugin requirements and utilize modern extensions and technologies, such as HTML5. Netflix has apparently been working closely with Microsoft in advancing the HTML5 platform, with APIs being available to other browsers eventually.

If you have a Netflix subscription, fire up Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 Preview and check it out!
