Straying away from the western consumer market in recent years, Panasonic has been busy producing a series of powerful and functional tablets and computing devices for business customers the world over. From the building site to cartographic surveying, the Toughpad and Toughbook series has become something of a mainstay for those with especially ‘rugged’ needs.

Continuing the line, Panasonic has announced the two latest entries in its Toughpad and Toughbook lines, the FZ-G1 tablet and the CF-31 notebook. Both sport high-end specs and are able to run demanding apps and software.

The FZ-G1 sports an Intel i5-5300U vPro processor and integrated Intel HD 5500 graphics, offering support for DirectX 11. The device has a quoted battery life of between “10 hours to 13 hours”, though with the large battery pack option, this can increase to over 24 hours. Running a full version of Windows 8.1, this device offers optional hot-swap capabilities allowing those with greater battery needs to adapt if necessary. In addition to this, the device is certified to MIL-STD-810G and sports an IP65 ingress protection rating, meaning it is resistant to dust and water.

As a flagship rugged notebook from the Japanese firm, the CF-31 is quite a powerhouse. With a 5th Generation Intel Core i5-5300U vPro Processor the device can handle a variety of complex tasks with ease and can last for up to 18 hours on a single charge. According to Panasonic, the device is also:

“further optimised for connectivity whatever the location and includes the latest WLAN 802.11ac technology for the fastest data transfer. The latest high accuracy U-Blox 8 GPS functionality has also been added making it ideal for users that require pin-point location capabilities, with accuracy to between 2-4m when on foot or in vehicles”

Designed for those in the defense industry in particular, the device also sports a ‘stealth mode’ (the reality of this isn’t an invisibility cloak) offering a comprehensive overall package for those who need it. In addition to this, the CF-19 Toughbook is being updated with an embedded Intel CPU, allowing for greater longevity.

The Toughbook CF-31 will set buyer back a pretty £2,736 (plus VAT), while the Toughpad FZ-G1 will cost £1,604 (also including VAT). Updated versions of the CF-19 will be priced at around £2,256, with these prices reflecting the advanced and unique capabilities of the hardware.
