MWC 2015: Acer announces its first Windows Phone in 4 years with the Liquid M220

Mobile World Congress 2015 is just about to officially get underway, and we are finally seeing some of the first new products unveiled. Since December last year, we’ve been hearing rumors of an upcoming Acer Windows Phone-powered smartphone, and now it’s here in the form of the Acer Liquid M220.

Acer was reportedly envious of how successful Windows Phone was in the low-cost, budget market and the company has developed the M220 to fall under that category. The device comes in black or white with a 4-inch display with a resolution of 480×800, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage space, a 5MP rear camera with single-LED flash in addition to a 2MP front shooter. Nothing spectacular here but that’s to be expected considering the target market.

The Acer Liquid M220 will be available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in April and will be priced at around €79 (~$88). That price places the M220 at exactly the same retail price as the Lumia 532 before taxes and subsidies, although it’s important to keep in mind that the Lumia 532 offers 1GB of RAM which means no app restrictions compared to the M220’s 512MB while the Acer device packs an arguably better front camera and rear LED flash which the Lumia does not, so it’s all about your priorities. We’ll have a full comparison of the devices for you soon.

Let us know what you think of Acer’s re-entry into the Windows Phone game in the comments below.
