Dell Mobile Connect will be discontinued on January 31, 2023

If you’re using the Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect apps to connect your Android or iOS phones to your Dell machine, then be prepared for some bad news. Dell has detailed in a new support document that the apps will be discontinued on January 31, 2023. The apps will also be removed from download at the end of this year, starting November 30 (via Windows Central.)

The popular solution has been pre-installed on Bluetooth-enabled Inspiron, Vostro, G-Series, Alienware, and Consumer XPS devices running Windows 10. It also can run on Windows 11 or Windows 10 with the right tweaks. Unlike Microsoft’s Phone Link, it has been popular, since it leverages Bluetooth and Wi-Fi so you can connect iPhones to Dell systems and get texts, photos, and even share your iPhones screen on your PC. We really liked it when put up against Phone Link.

Anyway, going back to the news, Dell is suggesting to uninstall Dell Mobile Connect or Alienware Mobile Connect from your Dell computers before the regional discontinuation date to help free up storage. In the US, that date is January 31, 2023. In other nations, it is even sooner on November 30, 2022. The app also doesn’t come pre-installed on the new XPS 13 Plus, as pointed out by Windows Central’s Daniel Rubino.

There’s no official reason for discontinuation, but it is likely a legal matter and issue with licenses on Dell’s end. Dell Mobile Connect was built by Screenonvate. Intel purchased Screenovate in late 2021 for $150 million and recently showed the app running on Intel Evo PCs.

With Dell Mobile Connect on the way out, Intel’s own Screenovate might just become the next best alternative to Phone Link. But, for now, you might want to get used to how Phone Link works.
