City and County of San Francisco makes the move to Office 365 for cloud email service

Yet another victory for Microsoft and the Office 365 cloud platform. Just yesterday, we reported that Queensland, the second largest and third most populous state in Australia, is planning on making the move to Office 365 – a change that affects 149,000 public servants across the state. Today, Microsoft has revealed that the City and County of San Francisco will also make the move to Office 365 for cloud email.

The City and County of San Francisco will utilize Microsoft Office 365 across all its departments and agencies, including those needing to meet the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) regulatory policy requirements. Thankfully, Office 365 meets those requirements.

“We are particularly excited about this transition and believe San Francisco will be the first city and county of its size to complete a Microsoft Office 365 for Government cloud transition in which each of the departments – including police and safety, as well as health – will be on one integrated platform,” says Marc Touitou, the chief information officer of San Francisco.

This move to Office 365 affects 29,000 employees in public safety services (law enforcement, fire, rescue, and health).
