Chromium-based Microsoft Edge now being tested on Xbox

Microsoft Edge on PC and mobile has been significantly improved since Microsoft’s move to making Edge Chromium-based, however, that same care and attention has been absent from its suite of Xbox consoles.

But as of the latest Xbox Insider Alpha Skip Ahead build, Microsoft has begun testing its Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser on Xbox.

First reported by Tom Warren, the new Microsoft Edge shows as a separate icon on Xbox in the apps library:

Whilst a positive step, it was not necessarily unexpected. Microsoft’s legacy Edge browser is coming to the end of its supported life on 9th March for desktop, therefore it makes sense that Microsoft is taking steps to bring its latest Edge browser to Xbox consoles.

There is no set date for the launch of the browser on Xbox, but those on the Xbox Insider Alpha Skip Ahead ring can download the update and begin testing it out.
