Xbox Game Pass $1 promotional offer makes a return

Only a few months after it was discontinued, the $1 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate trial has returned. First introduced in 2018, the long-running offer was a great way for gamers to get an introduction to what Game Pass has to offer without much of a monetary commitment.

And frankly, it’s good to see this come back, especially in the wake of the recent Game Pass price increase. This in addition to hikes in the Xbox Series X in some regions. Current Game Pass subscription rates (in the U.S.) are as follows.

  • Xbox Game Pass (console): $10.99—up $1 from the previous price
  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: $16.99—also up $1

Curiously, Microsoft elected not to raise the price of PC Game Pass. These changes are already in effect for new members; for existing subscribers the price increase takes effect on August 13.

Note that this new “$1 for your first month of Game Pass” offer does not apply to the console tier, but only for the Ultimate version. However, it is available for both brand-new subscribers as well as previous members who allowed their subscriptions to lapse.
