Yahoo today unveiled its latest version of its Yahoo Mail service to its 284 million users worldwide. Yahoo promised and delivered several new features such as social networking additions and a performance boost.
Yahoo offered its new Yahoo Mail service to users as a beta program back in October of 2010 (codenamed Minty) and promised users a significant performance update as well as numerous new features.
The new Yahoo Mail will have social networking features and will allow users to respond to Facebook friends directly from an email message rather than having to sign on to Facebook separately. Users can also watch slideshows and watch videos directly inside their email.
Yahoo has also made it easier to see emails from your contacts by showing emails from those in your address book at the top of your unread messages. Users can even send text messages and instant messages directly from Yahoo Mail.
The new Yahoo Mail will also have the file sending service, YouSendIt, built into it allowing users to send stuff quickly.
“Yahoo’s vision for online communications brings together all the tools that people use to connect–e-mail, chat, SMS, and social updates–and makes it easier for them to share content and engage in conversations with the people that matter most to them,” said Yahoo’s Chief Product Officer Blake Irving.
