Xbox Music and Xbox Video for Windows Phone gets improved UI responsiveness and faster load times

Microsoft has rolled out the seventh update to the Xbox Music app for Windows Phone, along with an update to the Xbox Video app. The update for the Windows Phone 8.1 Music app focuses on UI responsiveness and general reliability/quality improvements.

The Music app was bumped to version 2.6.155 and is now faster in loading your collection, especially collection lists and artist details. Scrolling in your collection album and artist lists is now smoother too. The app also features the ability to sync with your cloud collection while your phone is charging. Microsoft has also improved the messaging as your collection builds and syncs with the cloud.

Microsoft also addressed numerous bugs in this update. Here are the most notable bug fixes:

  • Album art not appearing (or incorrectly using the Xbox Music catalog version) when present in local MP3s
  • Scrolling through a playlist being jerky and seeming to scroll infinitely
  • Shuffling your collection having too few songs, and including duplicates
  • ‘New music’ items showing either twice or not at all

Microsoft is continuing to work on app performance. “We’re continuing to invest in improving the responsiveness of the app,” the company stated on UserVoice. There will also be future Live Tile and Kid’s Corner support, along with general user experience improvements.

Xbox Video, on the other hand, was bumped to version 1.6.154.0 on Windows Phone 8 and 2.6.154.0 on Windows Phone 8.1 and features quicker loading for personal video, movie and TV show collections. Expired rental downloads are now automatically cleaned up to free up disk space. Microsoft also fixed various bugs.
