Phil Spencer hints at possible Battletoads release

It appears it is possible that Battletoads will be released in the near future. The last game of the series was released in 1994 and it is possible Microsoft is working on a Battletoads reboot. Probably not this year, but maybe sometime in the not too distant future. In a series of puzzling tweets by Phil Spencer and Robin Beanland, composer at Rare Limited, it appears Rare is working on a game that is supposedly going to be epic.

Got to play the new @RareLtd game today. Rare building a uniquely Rare game, as it should be. Great visit to the studio.

There are no details on the game in question, but both Spencer and Beanland are teasing fans with a couple of puzzling tweets to what the game might be. However, according to Xbox Magazine, Microsoft did renew the Battletoads trademark in November 2014, so it is not completely out of the question on seeing Battletoads released sometime soon. Phil Spencer also wore a Battletoads t-shirt to the Windows 10 event yesterday, leading to further speculation about a Battletoads release.

When asked about the t-shirt choice, Phil Spencer responded:

I don’t think I’ve ever worn a t-shirt that’s been a complete head-fake. I wouldn’t do that.

At this point, we will just have to wait and see. Microsoft has no official word on any Rare release this year, just that it’s going to be a “HUGE year for Rare.” Hopefully, Microsoft will say something legitimate about Battletoads instead of all these cryptic messages. What do you think? When do you think Rare will release the new Battletoads? Let us know in the comments section below.
