Microsoft’s Xbox 360 entertainment console remains the top-selling gaming console in the United States for the entirety of this year, but has finally lost to Sony’s PS3 console after 32 consecutive months of dominance.

Microsoft has been touting the Xbox 360’s dominance in a monthly blog post highlighting the consecutive months of dominance, but this time, Microsoft decided to showcase the Xbox 360 stats for the entire year.

\

As of September of 2013, the Xbox 360 reached the biggest software sales ever with sales reaching $401.2 million dollars. This was the most for any console in the United States. The Xbox 360 held five of the top ten consoles games during the month of September including: “Grand Theft Auto V,” “FIFA 14,” “Madden NFL 14,” “Diablo III” and “NBA 2K14.”

\

The Xbox 360 remains the number one selling console in the United States with 1.6 million units sold since the start of this year. Unfortunately, thanks to the special 500GB GTAV bundle for the Sony PS3, the Xbox 360 finally lost during the month of September. Sony’s PS3 was the top selling console for the month of September, breaking the Xbox 360’s 32-month streak from January 2011 through August 2013.

\

Microsoft has been offering special holiday Xbox 360 bundles in an attempt to further boost sales since the new Xbox One entertainment console is set to launch on November 22nd. The Xbox One will launch initially in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.
