Apple users can now try running Xbox 360 games on iPhone, iPad, and Mac using a new experimental app called XeniOS, which brings early-stage emulation to Apple devices and already shows some games running, even though the project remains in alpha.
According to Windows Central, developers released an experimental fork of the Xenia emulator for Apple platforms, and this version focuses on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, which creates a surprising shift since Xbox 360 emulation has stayed mostly limited to Windows until now.
XeniOS builds on the existing Xenia emulator and adapts it for Apple hardware, and the project uses JIT to execute translated game code, which helps Xbox 360 software run on devices that were never designed for it, while documentation calls it an “ambitious goal” with uncertain limits.
Installation and current limitations
- You must sideload the app because it requires JIT support
- Apple restricts JIT for security, so App Store release is not possible now
- Compatibility remains limited and varies across games
- Expect crashes, bugs, and unstable performance
- Only use games you legally own
Early testing and gameplay
Developers and creators like Retro Spirit have already shared setup guides and gameplay tests, and early results show that “some games already appear to be playable,” which makes the project worth watching despite its early state.
The emulator remains experimental, but it opens a path for running Xbox 360 titles on Apple devices, and future updates will decide how far this effort can go.
