Last Friday evening, Microsoft pushed out an update to Windows Insiders using the latest Windows 10 Mobile build, updating their devices to version 10586.29. Unfortunately for early adopters who have purchased a Lumia 950 or 950 XL, the updates are not yet available, although a blog post that came along with the updates promises that those devices (along with the Lumia 550 and the LG Lancet) will be updated sometime early this week:

We are also taking this opportunity to onboard some new devices in the Windows Insider Program to receive these updates. These devices will be added early next week, along with an update to the Windows Device Recovery Tool that resolves detection issues on these devices.
Additional devices available to Windows Insiders early next week:

  • LG Lancet

  • Microsoft Lumia 550

  • Microsoft Lumia 950

  • Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

While we’re still waiting for the actual updates, The Windows Device Recovery Tool looks like it has been updated to detect the new devices, also as promised in the blog post.  A mandatory update to the Tool updates it to version 3.1.5, and does properly detect the Lumia 950 XL:

Normally we’d be expecting an update to land sometime on Tuesday morning, but after last Friday night’s release of the latest update for Windows 10 Mobile, all bets are off. What’s next, Sunday morning releases? Anyway, stay tuned to WinBeta, we’ll be watching for all the latest news.
Thanks Tero for the tip!
