As we all know, Windows 8 was officially launched on October 26th with promises from the company for a secure operating system. According to a new report, Windows 8 can protect you from 85% of recent malware threats from the past six months, all thanks to having Windows Defender enabled and running.

Windows 8 protects you from 85% of recent malware threats, thanks to windows defender - onmsft. Com - november 9, 2012

According to data from security firm BitDefender, “Newly launched Window 8 is prone to infection by some 15 per cent of the 100 malware families most used by cyber criminals this year.” This pretty much means that Windows 8 keeps you protected from 85% of malware threats. BitDefender took 385 of the most popular malware samples and ran it against Windows 8’s security defenses to see how it did, and it did pretty well with Windows Defender enabled. So there you have it. If you are not running Windows Defender, you should start! Of course, if you have another security solution installed, your chance of combating malware might be higher.
