Windows 8 Build 7989 Images Surface

It has been pretty quiet on the Windows 8 leak front as of late but two new images have surfaced today showcasing a new wallpaper and a new boot-up screen that indicates a leak of build 7989 is eminent.

In this screenshot, we see that there is a new wallpaper. The build string for this is 7989.winmain.110421-1825 which indicates that this build was compiled towards the end of April and is a Milestone 3 build.

In the second screenshot, we clearly see the Microsoft “betta fish.” For those wondering what the heck that is, the company introduced the fish in Windows 7 beta. The fish is a placeholder mascot for Microsoft’s beta phase so it is no surprise that Microsoft is using it in Windows 8, as beta 1 approaches. We expect to see the first beta during this years BUILD developers conference in September, or hopefully sooner.

As we have seen from multiple screenshots and the Windows 8 introduction at the Computex and D9 conferences, the Windows 8 user interface is heavily influenced by Windows Phone 7’s Metro UI. In fact, we are also expecting to see Xbox Live integration in Windows 8.

Stay tuned as this story develops. For up to date Windows 8 news, you can follow us on our Windows 8 page.
