Yes, you heard right. Windows 7 SP1 has hit RTM. The long anticipated, long awaited update for Microsoft’s latest and greatest Operating System, Windows 7, has finally been released to manufacturing (RTM).

Brandon LeBlanc, over at the Windows Team Blog, reports that the final release of Windows 7 SP1 has reached RTM status. The final build string is being reported as: 7601.17514.101119-1850.

Windows 7 SP1 will be available for Volume License customers as well as MSDN and TechNet subscribers on February 16th. For those who dont have access to such services, the service pack will be available for download via Microsoft Download Center and Windows Update on February 22nd.

So what is new in Windows 7 SP1? All the updates available through Windows Update will be neatly rolled into one package for your convenience. SP1 also includes client-side support for RemoteFX. To refresh your memory, RemoteFX is a set of RDP tools that will allow users to work remotely in a Windows Aero desktop environment, watch full-motion video, enjoy Silverlight animations, and run 3D applications with excellent performance. SP1 will also support Dynamic Memory. These are two new virtualization features that are also in the upcoming Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, due the same day.

LeBlanc also reports that you will also be able to use the built-in “disc cleanup” tool to free up space by removing Service Pack backup files.

Release notes for Windows 7 SP1 will not be available for download until February 22nd.
