Windows 7 which is still the most popular desktop operating system, as per the new figures from NetMarketShare. The analytics firm has released the figures for June 2015, and the new numbers show that Windows 7 still leads the charts with a 60.98 percent market share, a rise from 57.76 percent last month.
The decade old Windows XP is finally seeing a continuous decline, falling from 14.60 percent in May to 11.98 percent in June, and is still residing as the second most popular operating system. As for Windows 8.1, it’s on the third spot with a 13.12 percent market share, a slight increase of 0.24 percent compared to last month. Combined, Windows has a desktop market share of over 90 percent with Apple’s Mac OS X residing at 7.54 percent.
As for Microsoft’s upcoming operating system, it was also spotted in the numbers with a small market share of 0.16 percent. The new operating system is still in preview forms and is being updated on a regular basis for users enrolled in the Windows Insider program. Microsoft is set to launch the Windows 10 operating system for desktops on July 29th. Customers with Windows 7 or 8/8.1 will be able to upgrade free to Windows 10 when its officially available.
