Windows 11 update KB5028185 plagued by performance and connectivity issues

As reported by TechRadar, Windows 11’s latest cumulative update, KB5028185 (Moment 3), has sparked numerous complaints due to various issues. After installing the update, users have reported significant performance slowdowns and unstable internet connections. Despite the update, the persistent sluggish SSD problem remains unresolved. Meanwhile, there have been reports that fluent 3D emoji could come soon to Windows 11

Redditors have expressed frustration, citing slower PC speeds and longer boot and restart times. One user mentioned a welcome screen delay of 17 seconds compared to the previous 4½ seconds. Uninstalling the update seemed to resolve the problem.

The second major issue revolves around disrupted internet connectivity. Users have needed help with both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections. Complaints range from complete loss of internet access to firewall malfunctions. Additionally, users have reported unstable Wi-Fi network connections.

A third annoyance reported is the system tray’s malfunctioning Windows Security icon. Clicking on it does not yield any response, although virus scans still function correctly. Multiple users have confirmed this glitch.

These issues highlight the problems users face with Windows 11’s latest update, necessitating prompt attention and remedial action from Microsoft.

What to do? Workarounds, but with catches.

If you’ve encountered problems with KB5028185, the July cumulative update for Windows 11, including random crashes, there is a temporary solution: uninstall KB5028185. However, this means you’ll be without the latest security fixes, which is not ideal. Eventually, the update will reinstall itself, especially in Windows 11 Home Edition.

It is hoped that Microsoft is actively investigating and working on fixes for these bugs. Some Reddit users have suggested disabling Core Isolation (Memory Integrity) as a workaround. It has been claimed that this feature is responsible for system lag and crashes. To disable Memory Integrity, search for ‘Core Isolation,’ access the panel, and turn off the slider (then reboot). This might resolve performance and internet issues, but turning off this security feature leaves you vulnerable to potential exploits.

You must choose between running without the update or turning off a vital security feature. Suppose the problems caused by KB5028185 are significantly impacting your experience. You may consider taking the risk, but please be aware of the potential consequences.
