Windows 10 Technical Preview proves existence of Windows 8.1 Update 2

August earlier this year, we were expecting the release of Windows 8.1 Update 2 (also referred as Windows 8.2 by many), the major update to Windows 8.1 Update that Microsoft had released earlier this year. However, on August 12, the supposed release date of the said update, Microsoft squashed the existence of “Windows 8.1 Update 2” and made several changes to its rapid release cycle.

Despite what Microsoft said at that point, it seems Windows 8.1 Update 2 was real, as mention of the operating system has been found on the recently released Windows 10 Technical Preview; not just that, the mention, as pictured above also reveals that at some point Microsoft planned to bring back the Start menu to the operating system with the said update.

As Brad Sams of Neowin speculates, Microsoft likely realized that it would only make things complicated for them if they brought back the Start menu to the Windows 8.x operating system — Hence the company found it best to save this feature for its next major release.
