Windows 10 Photos app updated for Windows Insiders, brings new UI and animations

Laurent Giret

Microsoft has released a new update to its Windows 10 Photos app for Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring. The new app has been bumped to version 16.831.10072.0 on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, and while there is no detailed changelog we spotted the following additions:

  • Microsoft is moving away from the all-caps menu headers and the new fonts are now consistent with the UI of the recently updated (for Insiders) People app. However, please note that the Windows 10 Mobile version now hides the icons for Wifi, time and battery life on the top of the screen and we’re not sure if it’s a bug or not.
  • There are nice new animations when you open pictures.

While the Windows 10 Photos app still uses a hamburger menu, the Windows 10 Mobile version is still one of the few native apps that doesn’t use one. Let us know in the comments if you spot other new features in this new update.
