Windows 10 April 2018 update now available for Alienware PCs

Previously, Windows 10 users with certain Alienware PC models were receiving an error message when trying to download the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. As noted by a MSPU post, (via myITforum) the issue has since been resolved. Here’s a list of the five Alienware PC models affected by the error:

  1. Alienware 13 R3
  2. Alienware 15 R3
  3. Alienware 15 R4
  4. Alienware 17 R4
  5. Alienware 17 R5

Many Alienware PC users went right to Microsoft, complaining about Windows 10 download and install issues, hoping for a quick fix. The “Hybrid Laptops with discrete GPU connected to display,” was first posted in the Microsoft Answers forum in early May 2018:

“Some apps need to be uninstalled. These programs need to be uninstalled because they aren’t compatible with the upgrade: Hybrid laptops with discrete GPU connected to the display.”

It is unfortunate that Alienware PC users had to wait this long for a fix. Microsoft intentionally blocked the affected Alienware PCs from getting the update because of a known issue that would show a black screen upon exiting battery saver mode. Here’s hoping Microsoft is able to avoid any further Alienware PC issues in future Windows 10 updates.
