Windows 10 20H2 build 19042.508 is now available in the Beta channel

Following the release of new Patch Tuesday updates for all supported versions of Windows 10 earlier today, Windows Insiders in the Beta channel can also download a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 20H2. Microsoft is continuing to service the next version of Windows 10 ahead of its public release later this fall, and this new build includes the following improvements:

  • We fixed an issue with a possible elevation of privilege in windowmanagement.dll.
  • We fixed a security vulnerability issue with user proxies and HTTP-based intranet servers. After installing this update, HTTP-based intranet servers cannot leverage a user proxy by default to detect updates. Scans using these servers will fail if the clients do not have a configured system proxy. If you must leverage a user proxy, you must configure the behavior using the Windows Update policy “Allow user proxy to be used as a fallback if detection using system proxy fails.” This change does not affect customers who secure their Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) servers with the Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols. For more information, see Ensuring clients stay secure, changes to scans against Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) servers.
  • Security updates to Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Shell, Windows Cloud Infrastructure, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Management, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization, Windows Storage and Filesystems, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.

Windows 10 version 20H2 will be a minor update for the version 2004 of the OS released back in May. The upcoming release will bring minor changes to the Start Menu, the Taskbar, toast notifications, the Alt + tab experience, and more, and Microsoft has recently invited business users to test it ahead of its public release. We still don’t know the release date for Windows 10 version 20H2, but last year’s 19H2 update wasn’t released until November.
