According to TechCrunch, WhatsApp is quickly gaining ground on Snapchat with “WhatsApp Status.” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says WhatsApp Status accounts for more than 175 million daily users of the 1.2 billion WhatsApp users. That is pretty impressive growth for a WhatsApp feature that was just introduced in February 2017.
In addition to Snapchat Stories, WhatsApp Status joins the growing field of like-minded apps, including Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories and Messenger Day. WhatsApp Status allows users to post photos and videos in a slideshow that their contacts can only see for 24 hours before it disappears.
Facebook has already integrated the stories feature for its other apps; Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories and Messenger Day. It is important to point out that WhatsApp has a good presence and opportunity to beat out Snapchat in international markets.
