The official Windows 10 Facebook app is being killed off later this month

Facebook will apparently be shutting down its official Windows 10 app at the end of the month according to a report by MSPU.

According to the post, Facebook has begun sending emails out to those who use the app informing them of the plans for the app and encouraging them to switch back to accessing Facebook via a web browser. The Windows 10 Facebook Messenger app isn’t going anywhere and is actually recommended in this email.

I personally don’t have a copy of this email because I, like most other people, don’t use the Facebook app on my Windows 10 device. Here’s the copy that was sent to MSPU by someone who does.

Since you use Facebook for Windows desktop app, we wanted to make sure you’re aware this app will stop working on Friday, February 28, 2020. You can still access all of your friends and favorite Facebook features by logging in through your browser at www.facebook.com.

For the best experience, make sure you’re using the most current version of our supported browsers including the new Microsoft Edge.

You can still access Messenger through the Facebook website or by logging in through your browser at www.messenger.com. If you prefer a desktop app for your conversations, try the new Messenger for Windows which you can download now in the Microsoft Store.

Thank you for using Facebook for Windows desktop app,

The Facebook Team
