At Ignite 2020, Microsoft announced a new set of capabilities coming to its task management tool, Microsoft Planner. The company detailed that it’s increasing the number of task labels and colors to 25. This update will start rolling out to the Planner app and Tasks in Teams in late February, according to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
Microsoft says that it’s one of the popular requests from Microsoft Planner users, and it has been incorporated based on the feedback received from customers. This is a major change than before, where users could only add up to 6 labels for a given plan. With this update, users will now be able to choose up to 25 colored labels to embed directly into each task card’s detailed view.
“More labels allows for greater flexibility when organizing tasks. Use labels to flag risks, signal delays, help fine tune task prioritization, clarify accountabilities, or categorize tasks around a theme spanning multiple buckets,” the company explained.
In Microsoft Planner, users can apply filters to their tasks in order to increase visualization of those tasks on the Planner board. They help users to quickly look at essential details such as locations, requirements, or important time constraints. This new experience aims to make labels are now more accessible and easier to use.
