Since Microsoft released its new Surface Pro tablet last month, it seems that some devices have been randomly affected by a mysterious hibernation issue. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and said that a fix was in the works, and the company quietly released yesterday a new firmware update for the new Surface Pro (via MSPoweruser).

According to the release notes, the latest firmware 233.1763.257.0 “revises system power reporting” and should improve overall reliability, though it’s still not clear if this is the much-awaited fix for the tablet’s hibernation issues. Microsoft has yet to post an update on the company’s Answers forum, and it seems that Surface Pro users are having a different experience with the new firmware so far. One user said in the same thread that the update fixed the random hibernation issue, but another one said that it still happens though at a much lower frequency.

You can install this latest firmware update on your Surface Pro through Windows Update, or you can also install it manually by downloading it from this page. Once you’re done, let us know in the comments if you noticed some improvements on your Surface Pro.
