Surface Pro 3 heavily discounted in US and UK – onmsft.com

With the Surface Pro 4’s sale date right around the corner, Microsoft has dropped the pricings for Surface Pro 3 units across the board, at least in the US and the UK. Strangely enough, these price drops only last until October 31st. Which is quite bizarre, considering that if they do continue being sold after the deadline, they would sell for almost the exact same prices as the new Surface Pro 4, which start at $899 for the 128GB Core m3 4GB model and range upward to $1599 for a Core i7 256GB 8GB RAM device .
US customers will see price drops of $100 across the board. This breaks down to:

  • Intel Core i3 model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage goes down from $799 to $699 in the US,.
  • Intel Core i5 model with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage goes down from $999 to $899.
  • Intel Core i5 model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage goes down from $1299 to $1199.
  • Intel Core i7 model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage goes down from $1549 to $1449.
  • Intel Core i7 model with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage goes down from $1949 to $1849.

UK customers will significantly greater discounts. This breaks down to:

  • Intel Core i3 model with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage goes down from £639 to £549 in the US,.
  • Intel Core i5 model with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage goes down from £849 to £729.
  • Intel Core i5 model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage goes down from £1079 to £929.
  • Intel Core i7 model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage goes down from £1299 to £1059.
  • Intel Core i7 model with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage goes down from £1549 to £1329.

It remains to be seen if Microsoft will continue selling the old Surface Pro 3 after the October 31st deadline. If so, I wonder what the rationale is for charging the same price as the Surface Pro 4 despite being clearly inferior in specification? We shall see soon enough.
