Surface 2 with AT&T LTE clears through the FCC, is the launch near?

Microsoft Surface 2

Last year, Microsoft announced it will launch a LTE-enabled version of the Surface 2 for ATT network this year, but failed to provide an exact launch date and gave a vague early-2014 timeframe to look at for the release. Recently, Microsoft Surface 2 passed through the FCC with LTE connectivity, suggesting the official launch of the tablet on ATT is near — the FCC is usually the last stop before a device hits retail. It’s also worth mentioning that Surface 2 will be the first of its kind to bring LTE connectivity on board.

The documents listed on the FCC website don’t provide a whole lot of details, but there’s a confidentiality request filed as well, so there isn’t much to be expected. But, you should be sure of the fact won’t be any surprises hidden here, at least that’s what I think as it’s the same Windows RT tablet with built-in LTE connectivity.

For those of you who need a refresher, Microsoft Surface 2 rocks a 10.6-inch display boasting a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and is powered by a quad-core Tegra 4 processor clocked at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM on board. Here’s a complete list of specifications of the Surface 2:

  • 10.6-inch display ClearType Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080
  • Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.7GHz
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32/64GB storage with a microSD card support of up to 64GB
  • Windows RT 8.1
  • 5MP rear camera
  • 3.5MP front-facing camera
  • Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
  • Bluetooth 4.0 LE
  • 10.81 x 6.81 x 0.35 in
  • 1.49lbs

We’ll update you as soon as Microsoft launches the LTE version of the Surface 2. Will you get your hands on the tablet once it hits retail?
