Subnautica 2 is finally moving toward its early access release, with the underwater survival sequel now planned to launch in May on PC and Xbox after months of delays and internal conflict that slowed development and raised concerns about its future.
IGN reports that developer Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton have agreed the game is ready for early access, although they have not shared an exact release date yet, and this update comes right after a court decision that reshaped the situation around the studio’s leadership.
The development team says it has made strong progress over the past months, adding “more story chapters, new creatures, and new biomes” while also passing a key milestone review that cleared the path for release, and the studio now believes it can “deliver an experience our players will love” as it enters open development.
Legal Battle and Leadership Return
A judge recently ordered Krafton to reinstate former CEO Ted Gill and extend the deadline tied to a $250 million bonus, which had become the center of a legal dispute between both sides, and this decision allows the project to move forward with its original leadership back in place.
Krafton says it will “evaluate our options” while staying focused on minimizing disruption and supporting the planned launch, and with early access now set for May, players can expect more updates soon as the team prepares to bring the game to the community.
