Rod Fergusson, former head of Black Tusk Studios, announced that the Vancouver-based team is changing their name to The Coalition.
The studio is responsible for the popular Gears of War franchise, an exclusive to Xbox One, announced the change in a YouTube post.
Fergusson goes on to say that moving forward they want fans to think Gears of War when they hear The Coalition in the same manner as when you hear Turn 10 or 343 Industries you think of the other exclusive Xbox franchise Forza and Halo.
To help explain the name change in his post, Fergusson poses the question to himself “What’s in a name?” and responds:
“In short, The Coalition speaks to who we are as a team, and what it is we’re working on.”
In the post it is also noted that The Coalition is in part a reference to the Coalition of Ordered Government (COG) from Gears of War lore.
The post also reveals that fans of Gears of War should stay tuned to the news coming out of E3, specifically the Xbox Daily: Live @ E3, on Monday June 15th at 4 pm PDT to see what newly named The Coalition is working on.
