SteamOS adds support for the popular Xbox One Elite Controller

SteamOS has received two updates this month, bringing it to Build 59 and Build 60 respectively. While both updates mainly served to further refine the operating system, the upgrade to Build 59 added support for one particular device many readers will be familiar with, the Xbox One Elite controller.

SteamOS is a Linux operating system designed exclusively for Valve’s Steam Machine video game consoles which have been out for around two years now but have struggled to take off in the way many expected, mostly due to Steam’s original users preferring PC gaming over consoles such as Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The Xbox One Elite controller is a special version of the Xbox One’s regular controller but designed for intense customizability for gamers with numerous extra buttons that can be swapped around and assigned specific functions. The new controller has proven to be very popular with Xbox One owners and has sold out numerous times since its launch despite its significantly higher price.
