Steam usage data for October 2013

\

Earlier today, NetApplications released its stats for the month of October 2013 showcasing Windows 8.1’s 9.25% operating system market share, which factors in shares of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. However, there is also another method to see how well Windows 8.1 is doing.

According to data from Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey for the month of October 2013, Microsoft’s latest operating system usage has climbed to a total of 18.69%. This factors in both 32bit and 64bit of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

\

For those that don’t know, this data is collected by Valve’s Steam game client and measures hardware and software stats on a monthly basis. According to the latest data, Windows 8 32bit has a share of 0.78% while Windows 8 64bit has a share of 15.99%. Windows 8.1 32bit has a share of 0.10% while Windows 8.1 64bit has a share of 1.82%. The total share for Microsoft’s latest operating system is 18.69%.

\

Windows 7, on the other hand, saw a total usage share of 66.45%, which included the 32bit and 64bit versions of the operating system. Windows 8.1 has seen the most change in usage between the operating systems, which pretty much means more gamers are choosing Windows 8.1 for their gaming needs.

\

Compared to the previous month, both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 saw an increase in share with a slight decrease in share for Windows 8 32bit. It seems that more gamers are choosing Windows 8 64bit and Windows 8.1 64bit for their gaming needs. What do you use?
