StatCounter: Windows 8 holds a 7.17% share, firmly in third place behind XP and 7

According to new data from StatCounter, Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system is firmly in third place right behind Windows XP and Windows 7. Windows 8 has seen great momentum in terms of market share and the operating system will continue increasing in market share thanks to the upcoming Windows 8.1 update.

According to the data, Windows 7 currently holds a 51.96% operating system market share worldwide. Windows XP comes in second place with a share of 20.58%. Windows 8 holds the third position with a share of 7.17%. Mac OSX holds a 7.14% while Windows Vista holds a 5.24%.

According to new data from NetApplications, Windows 8 currently holds a 7.41% market share as of August 2013. While both NetApplications and StatCounter have always had fluctuating differences in percentages, overall the Windows 8 platform has seen an increase in market share.
