STARZ Play brings premium subscription binge TV to Xbox One

Xbox One owners just gained a whole new way to be entertained by their console. Subscription TV service STARZ is due to launch on Microsoft’s entertainment platform and the aim is take TV out of the middle ages. The launch recognizes the fact that there is now a preference for binge-watching entire series and makes it easy to watch one episode after another — just hit Play and they’ll all play in a row like a playlist.

With original titles such as Power, Da Vinci’s Demons and Outlander, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to series, but there are also movies to choose from. The first episodes of many original series will premiere on STARZ Play even before they appear on STARZ.

And there’s more good news for anyone who isn’t quite ready to splash out on a subscription. If you’d like to try out the service without parting with any cash, the first episodes of many of the STARZ Original series are available completely free of charge.

The Xbox One launch follows a successful outing on Xbox 360 back in December, and there are plans for further services to launch on Xbox One by the end of 2014 — including ENCORE PLAY and MOVIEPLEX PLAY which have already made an appearance for Xbox 360 users.

Michael Thornton, Chief Revenue Officer of Starz, said: “Starz is very pleased to complete our development work on the Xbox One for STARZ PLAY ahead of schedule and offer a dynamic and rich user experience that takes advantage of many of the platform’s capabilities. STARZ PLAY has been a great success on the Xbox 360 platform with downloads and usage surging shortly after launch. Satisfaction and engagement of our subscribers has been tremendous. With an even more powerful user interface and improved voice and gesture support with Kinect, Starz has developed a robust STARZ PLAY experience on Xbox One that showcases and enriches our unmatched lineup of premium movies and STARZ Original series.”

You can grab the app now, and take advantage of the fact that it is compatible with Kinect — it will also let you build up media achievements so you can gain rewards for indulging!
