Spencer the company needs to do better in Europe

E3 turned out to be quite good for Microsoft’s Xbox, showcasing a number of new features and gaming titles for the console. However, it seems the sales of the console in Europe is still lacking behind. Microsoft’s Xbox head Phil Spencer also admitted the fact that Microsoft needs to do better in Europe when it comes to Xbox.

“We need to do better in Europe,” Spencer said in the latest issue of with EDGE (via VideoGamer). “When I look globally, mainland Europe is definitely an area we want to focus on.”

He further said, “I’m excited about going to Gamescom at the beginning of August, having another press show where we’re able to show games that we didn’t show [at E3]. So you’re going to see brand new games, as well as obviously some repeats, but you’re going to see Scalebound, Crackdown, Quantum Break from my friends at Remedy. From a product standpoint, I like where we are. I think the team’s doing a great job with the games and building a platform for gamers.”

Sony’s PlayStation 4 has a strong footprint in several European countries, which Spencer acknowledged in the interview with Edge as well. The Japanese maker enjoys a significant market share as revealed during an interview a few days back, going as high as 70 percent in some of the European countries.

“Sony does a really good job in those markets, and they have a long history – long before we were in this business – and they’ve earned the success that they get in those regions,” Spencer continued to tell EDGE. “I watch what they do because they do a lot of good things, and I want to make sure that we’re being smart about succeeding. And there are places like Latin America where Xbox does really well, and in the US the numbers keep going back and forth – it’s good competition which I think is good for everybody.”

There are a number of exciting games heading to Xbox One in the coming weeks, and with Gamescom just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft has anymore surprises when it comes to their gaming console. The Redmond-based company is holding a press conference at Gamescom on August 4th. We’re hoping to hear more about the upcoming games, new features, Xbox on Windows 10 PCs and more. Stay tuned to WinBeta as we’ll make sure you get every bit of action from Gamescom.
