There appears to be some issues updating to the latest version of Windows 10 Mobile for some owners of the new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL Windows phones. Several owners have reported the problem on Microsoft’s support website and the company has officially responded and acknowledged the issue.
A Microsoft forum moderator, Jason, had the following to say;
“- Some % Insiders have received the build.
– An undetermined % of Insiders are not showing any updates available
– This is affecting only 950 series devices
– All research on our (MS) side so far has shown the update pipeline to be in good shape and there are no logic/rules that would prevent these devices from seeing the Insider build”
He goes on to mention that Microsoft is looking into the issue and has reached out to several device owners for more information to help them solve the problem but has no ETA on a fix. “Definitely have the right Engineering folks engaged internally and this is getting lots of attention. I can’t commit to a specific timeline for a fix unfortunately, namely because we don’t fully know what the issue is at this time,” he admits in the post.
While a hard reset of an affected device does apparently solve the problem, users are being advised to hold off going that route as a simpler solution is expected to be found.
“Doing a hard reset does fix the issue, but we’re not asking all users to go that route yet while we investigate. Working to see if there’s an alternate fix available.”
