For some reason, it seems that some premium car manufacturers are becoming interested in the PC market these days. Earlier this year, we learned about the Porsche Design BOOK ONE at Mobile Word Congress, a Windows 10 2-in-1 device that Porsche created in partnership with an unknown “local manufacturer.” Now, Mercedes-Benz, another German manufacturer of luxury vehicules, has teamed up with VAIO to release a special edition of the company’s Vaio Z 2-in-1 PC in Japan (via MSPoweruser).

The “Mercedes-Benz x VAIO Z” is based on a flagship model from VAIO with an aluminum body, but it comes with the following customizations:

  • A Mercedes logo is engraved on the touchpad and hinge part
  • The back of the laptop also features an engraved iconic Mercedes-Benz car, either the classic model “300 SL” or the design concept model “Vision Tokyo” inspired by a vision of the Japanese capital city in 2030
  • The backlit keyboard uses special blue LED lights reminiscent of the light emitted by the company’s “Vision Tokyo” concept car
  • Last but not least, the special edition Vaio Z features special engine sounds when you boot it up or wake it up from standby

Other than that, the “Mercedes-Benz x VAIO Z is available in Intel Core i5 and i7 variants with 256GB of SSD storage. Both limited editions will be available in very limited quantiies in Japan, and you can purchase them on Amazon at a starting price of ï¿¥250,000.
