SlingPlayer for Windows 8 frees your TV from the living room

There are numerous methods you can used to stream media around your house, and one great hardware solution exists in the form of SlingBox. These handy devices can be used to control your DVR via your computer so you can watch and record TV shows from within Windows.

Now there is a handy Windows 8 app available that can be used in conjunction with the Slingbox 500, Slingbox 350, Slingbox PRO-HD and Slingbox SOLO — it cannot be used with older models. You can use the app to control your DVR over your home network, or even via the internet so you can watch and record shows when you are away from home.

There is a built in guide that can be used to track down the shows you might be interested in and you are then able to get your viewing entertainment on your Windows 8 PC or tablet.

The app will set you back $14.99, but there is a free trial available so you can check it out and see if it going to work for you.
