Skype helps deliver Yoga fitness to the classroom

Yoga in the classroom

Skype is great for keeping in touch with family and friends, but now there’s a new company using Skype to teach kids the physical and mental discipline of Yoga. Started by Nicole Cardoza and based in New York, the company is called Yoga Foster and it believes that the school day is better when students and teachers are centered and balanced.

Yoga Foster offers online yoga training, a monthly curriculum and equipment such as mats and music. Skype enables Nicole to reach more schools, and kindergartens than ever before over video and currently the company teaches 50 classes around the US. Teachers are impressed with the results and believe the Yoga sessions provide a calming break from regular the class that children look forward to. The small non-profit company is growing so fast that it is finding it difficult to cope with the demand from schools. According to Nicole, “We’ve discovered that we need 31,250 lbs. of mats to support all of our partner schools this coming school year. That’s the weight of two adult elephants.”

All too often technology can be frustrating and complicated, it’s heartening to see it bringing the simplicity of fitness and well-being to the classroom instead.
