Skype 6.0 released for Android, iPhone, iPad

Skype users on Android and iOS are getting an update today, bringing the version number to 6.0 and bringing a number of new features to those mobile devices. The updates are detailed in a new post on the Skype Garage & Updates blog, with the Android updates rolling out beginning today and the iOS apps already available.

What’s new for Android: The Skype app has been “redesigned for Android” , making it even easier to use on Android phones.  There is a floating “action button”, making it easy to start a new conversation, whether that’s from voice, chat, or video.  Along with that, both search and messaging have been improved.

What’s new for iOS: the iOS apps have been redesigned as well, with new navigation, use of swipe gestures to make calls and manage messages, and easier ways to share photos, links or emoticons.  Search has been improved in iOS, too, and Skype has gained a number of improvements for the iPad, tot, with better messaging, and adding the ability to start a group chat or group voice call straight from your iPad.

Windows Phone users haven’t been completely forgotten, and the blog post hints at things to come:

We are also working hard on the new Windows Phone 10 mobile to deliver a delightful Skype experience – we’ll let you know when we have more to share.

Are you a Skype user?  Do you use Skype from a mobile device?
