From the rumor mill: Microsoft to reveal the Xbox 720 near the GDC in late March

Back in June of last year, we learned from a leaked 56 paged document that shed some light on the company’s plans for Xbox 720. The presentation in the document appeared to be from August 2010 and revealed information about the improvements in Xbox 720 such as SmartGlass, a Metro styled dashboard, and TV apps for Xbox.

That Xbox 720 document leak revealed $299 console price-point, native 3D output and Blu-Ray support. Now, a new rumor suggest that Microsoft will reveal the Xbox 720 around the Game Developers Conference in late March. This rumor comes from Game Informer.

“We hear that both Sony and Microsoft are targeting special Apple-style press conferences to unveil their platforms near the Game Developers Conference in late March. E3 in June may be the industry’s biggest event, but both companies want to give their systems their own limelight. That doesn’t mean E3 won’t be without its surprises. Next-gen games will be announced at the convention in preparation for the systems’ release at the end of the year,” a report in the upcoming February 2013 edition of Game Informer states.

Not to be outdone by Microsoft, but the report also suggests that Sony has something up their sleeve too. “We hear that Sony in particular is determined not to come out last this time like the PlayStation 3 did this generation, so we’ll have to see how soon it can get the PlayStation 4 out the door, and whether Microsoft is motivated to prevent this from happening,” the report stated.

Add this to the list of rumors regarding Xbox 720. Microsoft has yet to announce any specifics on the next generation Xbox console.
