Capcom is weighing a possible Resident Evil Revelations remake as it continues to expand its lineup of successful remakes. The report suggests the studio has at least discussed revisiting the 2012 title, which originally launched on Nintendo 3DS before reaching other platforms with an HD version. The idea comes at a time when Capcom is actively exploring older entries in the series after strong sales from recent releases.
Dusk Golem, a known Resident Evil leaker, shared the update while discussing the franchise timeline and future plans.
“There’s a reason the directors of Rev 1 & Rev 2 are the ones spearheading the franchise at present. The original idea may have been to tell a story setback in the past, but their foundations ended up being crucial. The possibility of doing a Rev 1 Remake has been tossed around.”
That line points to early internal talks rather than a confirmed project, but it still shows Capcom is open to revisiting Revelations. The leaker also noted that the directors behind both Revelations titles now play key roles in the franchise, which keeps the game relevant in current planning.
Revelations still matters
Resident Evil Revelations sits between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 and follows Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani as they investigate a stranded cruise ship. The story shifts across multiple locations and uses an episodic format that feels closer to a TV thriller than a traditional game campaign. The T-Abyss virus and the Veltro group add a strong bioterror angle that fits well within the series timeline.
The game moved away from the heavy action seen in Resident Evil 5 and focused more on survival horror. Players managed limited ammo, explored tight spaces, and solved puzzles, which brought back a classic feel. At the same time, many players felt the controls lacked polish, which makes it a strong candidate for a modern update.
A Resident Evil Revelations remake would likely update controls, visuals, and pacing while keeping the core structure intact. Capcom has already shown how it handles remakes with Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, all of which modernized gameplay while keeping the original tone.
The sequel, Resident Evil Revelations 2, also exists as a follow-up option if the first remake moves forward. With the franchise performing well, Capcom continues to look at every part of its catalog for future releases.
For now, the Revelations remake remains a possibility, but the discussion alone shows Capcom is not done revisiting its past.
