Redbox Instant by Verizon app now available for Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers

Redbox Instant by Verizon

Back in early February of this year, Verzion gave exclusive console rights of the Redbox Instant movie service to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 platform. Redbox Instant is a cool movie streaming service with a variety of movies to choose from. Now, Redbox Instant is available on Xbox Live as an app!

Available for Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers, Redbox Instant by Verizon allows subscribers to enjoy the latest Hollywood releases as well as a collection of movies available for unlimited streaming to your Xbox console. You can even purchase or rent new releases and stream them directly to your Xbox 360 without even needed a subscription.

However, if you want to go the subscription route, a package will run for $8 a month for DVDs or a dollar more for Blu-Ray releases. Users who own a Kinect can also use their Kinect device to search and select a movie using voice and gesture control. Pretty cool feature! “As an added bonus, Redbox Instant by Verizon will be unlocked from Gold for a limited time so download it from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace today,” Microsoft’s MajorNelson stated in an official blog post.

As far as being a competition to Netflix or any other streaming service, you will have to be the judge of that. We checked out the movie collection and there is a lot of variety available, including categories such as “Popular”, “Just in”, “Thrillers”, and many more. Worth checking out if you have an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription!
