Red Stripe Deal March 20th

Every Thursday Microsoft releases a set of deals in their app store in the “RedStripe Deals” collection. Each week we highlight a few of the apps on sale and run through the price changes.

Award winning and cult followed board game Carcassonne is on sale this week for $1.99 as opposed to the regular price of $4.99. The app also now has “Custom Online Multiplayer” since its latest update. I’ve played the hard copy of the board game and in my opinion, players who enjoy Settlers of Catan or similar games will enjoy this one as well. Carcassonne is a tile based game in which players change a landscape to earn points. Players also use “knights, monks, thieves, or farmers – to earn points.” The app is available on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone.

A lot of the time users look to mobile gaming they are looking for an endless set of relatively simple tasks. Games like Temple Run are extremely popular and fill the need to monotonously do something while killing time. In a similar way 3ounce provides long lasting gaming with an endless set of randomly generated mazes. The app description states “You will never run out of new mazes to explore due to random generation.” For the next week 3ounce only costs $0.99 instead of the regular price of $2.49.

Another one of the apps on sale is AV Remote. The app description states that users can “remotely control your UPnP / DLNA compatible home entertainment devices” but the app’s rating of 2.6/5 stars suggests that users struggle with it. If you use this app and have UPnP/DNLA compatible devices please share your experiences in the comments section. It usually costs $2.99 but is only 99 cents for the next week. AV remote is also available on Windows Phone and Windows 8.1.

Here’s a full list of this week’s deals.

Chimpact 2 Family Tree: $0.99

AV Remote: $0.99

Carcassonne: this week $1.99

Hills of Glory: this week $1.49

Blazblue Calamity Trigger $3.99

3ounce $0.99

Hills of Glory $1.49

Mirror’s Edge: $1.49

Travel Mate: $0.99
