The head of Xbox Games marketing at Microsoft, Aaron Greenberg, has responded to fans on Twitter who have been asking when the third season of Killer Instinct, which is due out later this month on the 29th, will be available for pre-order.

Since some have asked, confirmed with team @KillerInstinct Season 3 pre-order starts in our Xbox Store this Friday!

In a brief tweet, he announced that the pre-orders for Killer Instinct Season 3 will begin this Friday. There has yet to be any announcement for any bonuses for players who pre-order the game and since this is a digital release, there’s no possibility of it selling out anywhere. A pre-order in this case would be done purely to get the purchase out of the way and to pre-download the game onto consoles and PCs before the release date so it can be played as soon as possible. Even updates to previous versions of Killer Instinct on the Xbox One have been several gigabytes in size and a completely new edition of the game is expected to be much larger.

While there are still details to be announced regarding Killer Instinct Season 3, some useful information has been revealed. The game will launch simultaneously on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC and feature cross-play between both sets of players. This will be the game’s debut on PC while the existing version on Xbox One is expected to update with the new content and players will have to pay to unlock all of the new characters as was the case when the game upgraded to Season 2 from Season 1.

Killer Instinct Season 3 will introduce guest characters to the franchise and will launch with the first two, Rash (from the BattleToads franchise) and Arbiter (from Halo) in addition to the modernized interpretations of classic Killer Instinct 2 characters, Tusk and Kim Wu. The character of Gargos has already been confirmed for later in the season and there have been possible leaks of a new character called Mira and General RAAM (from Gears of War) but these two have yet to be confirmed by official sources.
