Power BI is has gradually been introducing more customization options for users as well as making the entire application more user friendly for the more visually inclined.

Another new feature addition coming to Power BI customers are Custom Visuals being available via the Office store. With more than 80 visuals, Custom Visuals are becoming as turn based and automated as Excel or Word templates for Power BI users.

Once again, Microsoft continues to shift the focus of its productivity suite into a burgeoning platform of productivity enhancing experiences. Office and its separate apps are being webbed together with a growing Office store that is now offering add-on as well as stand alone programs.

The custom visuals gallery is moving to the Office store. Many visuals are already listed in the store, and we are working to onboard the rest of the visuals within a few weeks. The Office store will be the place to discover custom visuals and download them, as well as the place for developers to submit and manage their custom visuals in the store.

The visuals gallery will still be available until we finish moving all of the visuals to the Office store, however new submissions will only go to the Office store. All custom visuals that were ever downloaded from the gallery will continue to work as usual even after the gallery will be deprecated.

An added benefit to Custom Visuals now being a part of the Office Stores is that interested developers can use the Office developer center to:

  • Submit your custom visuals in an easy to use web portal.
  • Manage your custom visual submissions.
  • Track how many people visited your custom visual page in the store and downloaded it.
  • Get direct feedback from users through the review system to help you improve the visual.

Anyone with the skills and an interest in Power BI can get started with Custom Visuals starting today.
