Plex Goes Free For Nokia Lumia Devices – onmsft.com

Plex goes free for Nokia Lumia devices

Plex, if you aren’t familiar, is perhaps the best way to share media around your home. Simply set up the server on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer, even a NAS, and then add the end-user app to another computer or a smartphone, tablet or set-top box. The server software is free, but you can generally expect to pay $4.99 for the apps, regardless of platform.

Until now. Plex has quietly released a free version, but it’s exclusive to Nokia Lumia customers. What’s more, the app has been updated over its paid counterpart – Lumia customers can grab version 1.5.0.1, while others will have to rely on the 1.4 iteration for now. According to early reviews, this new version fixes some bugs present in the last update. However, Plex has not issued a change log, so we can’t yet say for sure.

One thing we can say, is that early reviews are largely positive, and the app is firmly a five-star hit at this early juncture. If you haven’t used Plex, then you’ll have a bit of setting up to do with the server, but it’s time well spent. The download link for the new app is below. As for the server, you’ll need to head to the Plex site, also listed below.
