Fans of Sony’s current-gen PlayStation 5 console have started a petition to bring Bethesda’s upcoming AAA action-RPG Starfield to the platform. The petition was launched on Change.org—the world’s largest petition platform with 500 million users—on June 15 by user Benjamin Dickey. At the time of this writing it has over 1037 signatures, although many of the commenters on the petition appear to have voted just to be able to leave a comment saying how much they disagree.

The “Why this petition matters” section begins,

For over a decade Bethesda games have been released on PlayStation. They perform better on PlayStation, run better, and sell better. Xbox and specially (sic) Phill Spencer have NO BUSINESS taking them away.

The appeal not only calls on Bethesda (which was acquired by Microsoft in 2019) to bring Starfield to PS5, but to “Make Starfield a PS5 EXCLUSIVE!!!!” as the petition’s title suggests. It goes yet another step further,

… it is important for Bethesda games to remain available on PlayStation. Not only that but as a punishment to Xbox and its horrendous player base we need to force ANY AND ALL future Bethesda titles to be ONLY PlayStation exclusives. Not just Starfield.

It ends with “ If youre (sic) a true gamer you will support this and sign.” It’s unclear if perhaps the petition is actually satire, though it appears to be legitimate. Needless to say, the petition has grabbed a fair bit of attention online, including on the Starfield subreddit. You may recall that a similar Change.org petition was launched a year ago when Hideo Kojima’s next game was announced as an Xbox exclusive.

Starfield is slated for release on September 6. Despite getting a negative review score on Metacritic recently, it is one of the most anticipated video games in memory. We got a deep dive showcase of the game just a week ago during the Starfield Direct, and judging from what was shown, Starfield may (hopefully) just live up to the monumental hype surrounding it.
