Phil Spencer, the Head of Xbox, has taken to Twitter to comment on how he believes the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) is helping bring more apps and games to Xbox One, after an Xbox One player complained that UWP is taking things from Xbox One and giving nothing from PC to the console.

The ending of Spencer’s tweet in particular however, raises some eyebrows. The UWP is aimed at bringing similar app and game experiences across all Windows 10 devices, where possible. A game on Xbox One should be a game on PC and vice versa. In addition, Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere aims to make it so that a game bought on Xbox One is owned on PC and again, vice versa.

One thing that isn’t too much of an issue on the console side of things is AAA titles – with the likes of Call of Duty, Battlefield and more, all being available for Microsoft’s gaming console. Those same games are also available on Windows, through a third-party platform, Steam, rather than Microsoft’s own platform – the Windows Store.

Discussing UWP and bringing AAA games means bringing more AAA titles to the Windows Store, in the process adding to the collection that Xbox One has to offer. The Windows Store already saw Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare arrive, albeit with multiplayer issues.

Could Microsoft be planning to further its gaming outreach through the Windows Store? We’ll have to wait and see, but rest assured that Spencer is aware they need to “work towards” getting more AAA games through the UWP.
